Senior 1 (15/16) (40 minutes)
Intro
Rules- always speak English, always listen, always use your English name.
Explain- Activities in school, subjects, what they enjoy and don’t enjoy and why.
Main
What do you study at school? Write question and list subjects that they suggest.
Which subjects do you like best? Write question and ask random people. Then elicit sentence-” I like______ because _“. Get them to suggest reasons, e.g. easy, fun, interesting, important e.t.c.
Which subjects do you like least? As above using sentence “I don’t like______ because __” Reasons could be hard, boring, e.t.c. Try to encourage them to use different words for hard/boring etc. Introduce new words e.g. confusing.
- RUB OFF BOARD AND DISCUSS IN PAIRS *
What else do you do at school? List things e.g. sport, music, eating, military training.
What other words/phrases can we use? Elicit different ways of saying I like/ I don’t like e.g. I enjoy, I hate, I’m interested in, I dislike.
Round-up
Draw tables- They draw a table split into I like and I don’t like and fill it in. Go round and ask people.
New words- go over any new words/ phrases learnt.

This was the second lesson I taught and it seemed to work well. It’s fairly basic and maybe doesn’t challenge them enough, but this can be overcome by teaching new vocab (I did confusing, canteen and military training). Gives plenty of chance for everyone to speak.
